Japanese Market Access For U.S. and European Automakers

Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association Provides Revealing Statistics

Japan says their markets are open. To their credit, they make data available on the web that shows how many new cars are sold/registered in their country and categorized by Japanese automaker or non-Japanese automaker. As you can see in the screenshot below, Japanese automakers have 95% of the car market. The remaining 5% consists of European and American cars. Contrast this with the U.S. market where U.S. manufacturers have only 48% of the market and foreign manufacturers have 52%.
